I CAN Responds to Government's education recovery plan

I CAN responds to the government announcement on the education recovery plan.

Chief Executive of I CAN,  Jane Harris, said:

"We welcome the news that the government is investing  £153 million in early-year practitioners' professional development to better support the youngest children with their speech and language development.  However, it is disappointing that the government does not recognise the needs of older children struggling with speaking and understanding. This announcement does nothing to support these children. 

"As we start to see children return to the classroom,  we are still assessing the pandemic's impact on children's long-term development. We need to see sustained funding over several years to ensure that children who struggle with speaking and understanding don't become a lost generation."
