Ofsted gives Meath School top marks

Pupils and staff at Meath School in Ottershaw, Surrey are celebrating today after Ofsted has once again rated the school ‘Outstanding’, recognising its continued success.

The inspectors described how the school’s leadership team and staff were ‘passionate about their work and determined to provide the best quality education for pupils at Meath’.

Meath School is a day and residential non-maintained school providing teaching, therapy and care to children aged 4-11. Meath is one of a very few schools in the UK for primary aged children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), including High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder.

As part of the inspection, the Lead Ofsted  Inspector spoke to pupils.  They said that they like this ‘happy, friendly’ school. Children knew that staff cared deeply about them and wanted them ‘to be the best that they can be’. They also found that pupils got the right help to understand their emotions and describe their feelings.  This approach is used in all classes and as a result, the school is a calm and cheerful place to learn.

During the two-day visit Inspectors highlighted how staff had a deep understanding of pupils’ special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).  They also praised teachers and therapists for working seamlessly together to give pupils the skills they need to achieve well.

Pam Cosh, Acting Principal at Meath School, said:

“We are delighted Ofsted have judged Meath School as outstanding. For the Inspectors to find a happy and friendly school, where the staff are passionate about supporting our children is a real accolade to the dedicated  work that goes on here at Meath School.  We will continue to strive to ensure to offer the best possible education to our children, to ensure that they can be their very best.”
