About Speech and Language UK

We are Speech and Language UK – we want every child to face the future with confidence. For 1.7 million children in the UK, learning to talk and understand words feel like an impossible hurdle. Without the right help, this can destroy their world. They feel disconnected from their family. Unable to make friends. Unfairly punished for not following instructions they don’t understand. What does the future hold for them?

About the role

We are looking for an experienced human resources practitioner to join a small HR team providing generalist support throughout the employee life cycle in an organisation with 210-230 staff in three main locations. As the HR & Recruitment Officer, you will provide:

  • Day-to-day HR administration for the organisation, personal records and ensuring the right people have the right paperwork and information at the right time in line with our data protection policy and employee privacy notice.
  • Payroll transactions with our outsourced payroll provider.
  • Recruitment support, from 'request to recruit' through to offer, onboarding and induction, including advice to hiring managers and school business teams.
  • Administration and development of our online learning portal known as the Speech and Language UK Learning Academy.
  • Management of processes across all stages of an employee cycle, including leaver and joiner processes, management of staff benefits, contracts of employment, and learning and development needs.
  • Co-ordination of HR workflows and processes to ensure tasks are followed through and the HR system is updated, as necessary.
  • All other HR processes where needed, including auditing and reporting, e.g., regular management information.
  • Employment policy and process development.

Essentially you will be proactive with great attention to detail, commitment to best HR practice, strong communication skills, an appreciation of the need for confidentiality and an ability to maintain a people-centric approach to processes.

In return we offer you an inclusive and supportive environment, the tools to work from the office and from home, access to our employee benefits programme, a range of employee wellbeing interventions and an investment in your personal development.
