Dawn House, a Speech and Language UK School, Helmsley Road, Rainworth, Nottinghamshire, NG21 0DQ

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Speech and Language Therapist at our Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ school in Nottinghamshire. We are part of the leading children’s communications charity, Speech and Language UK. We are located near to Mansfield and in delightful grounds close to Sherwood Forest. We are a multi-disciplinary team that includes Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Speech and Language Therapists, an Educational Mental Health Practitioner, Wellbeing Team and Occupational Therapists who all offer our pupils a fully integrated approach to our children’s education, communication skills and overall health and wellbeing. We work closely with our residential team and Speech and Language UK’s onsite Assessment Centre.

Child contact time is maximised so that our pupils achieve the best possible outcomes at Dawn House School through a holistic approach.  You will be school based and will be responsible for assessing, planning and delivering individualised intervention programmes for a defined caseload. You will work in an integrated way by collaborating with the teachers helping them and supporting them to deliver lessons with speech and language as a focus. You will also work with children individually or in small groups in specialist therapy spaces and within classroom-based sessions to enable them to access the curriculum and promote meaningful engagement in school based tasks.

Informal enquiries about this post can be made to Andrea Robinson, Head of Therapy on 01623 795361 andrea.robinson@dawnhouse.org.uk. There will also be an opportunity to ask Andrea and Sarah (Deputy Head of Therapy for SLT) further questions on an individual and confidential Zoom call available to any interested candidates on Friday 24th November from 2.30pm. Please contact using the email above for a dedicated and confidential slot.

Dawn House is set in a beautiful location with acres of well-maintained grounds. We pride ourselves as delivering outstanding, high quality integrated education, therapy and care. You will work collaboratively as part of strong and supportive multi-disciplinary team of teachers, therapists, teaching assistants and residential care officers, with class groups, smaller groups and with individual children. To succeed we need people like you, who share our dedication and passion to contribute towards the successful futures of our young people.

Dawn House is a non-maintained day and residential school for pupils aged between 5 – 19 years, who have severe and complex speech, language and communication difficulties with associated learning and/or behavioural differences.

The School received an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Ofsted in February 2018. The 92 pupils at Dawn House, a Speech and Language UK School receive the integrated therapy, education and care that they need to learn and develop independence. They receive full access to the national curriculum (pre 16) and an enriched curriculum that supports the transition to adulthood (post 16).
