4 reasons why you should fundraise on No Pens Day 2024๐๐ซ๐๐
Here at Speech and Language UK, we were thrilled to see so many of you super-teachers cast the pens aside in your classrooms last year for No Pens Day! We also like to think that lots of you have signed up again for this yearโs bumper day of pen-free fun (itโs on November 27th, by the way๐ sign up here!)
But thereโs something more pressing we need to discuss โ whatโs all this brouhaha from us about fundraising as part of No Pens Day? ๐ค
Well, here are 4 reasons why you should raise vital funds for the 1.9 million children facing challenges with talking and understanding words on November 27th:
1๏ธโฃ Fundraising teaches your pupils that they can truly help other children find their voice!
It can be easy to think about No Pens Day as just another opportunity to tick off oracy in the school curriculum, but fundraising is a vital tool in your arsenal to teach your students another lesson: that everyone has the power to change young lives! 91p of every ยฃ1 donated goes directly towards helping the 1 in 5 children with speech and language challenges โ thatโs up to 6 students in every average classroom โ with communication skills that will set them up for life.๐
2๏ธโฃ Fundraising is easy!
Raising money in your school doesnโt have to be a faff, and weโre here to help make it as easy for you and your students as possible!
If you havenโt already, sign up and get full access to our No-Pen-tastic selection of fundraising resources: thereโs a chatterbox and handouts for kids to take home (with QR codes to make donations a breeze๐), a fundraising guide, posters, and even presentations and email templates to let your Senior Leadership Team know why you want to take part in No Pens Day and the difference that ยฃ1 can truly make!๐
3๏ธโฃย FUNdraising is FUN!
Why stop at asking your students to bring in their pound coin? Boost your fundraising with creative ideas that get the whole school community involved!๐ก You could choose a couple of pupils to present their Show and Tell item and ask people to sponsor them, hold an auction, host a school-wide pen-free competition, set challenges, make crafts, bakeโฆ the possibilities are endless! ๐ Find more ideas in our fundraising guide (sign up to get it in your inbox โ you know you want to๐)
4๏ธโฃ Change starts with you๐
Imagine a world where you and all your colleagues have all the tools and training you need to help every child with their speech, language, and communication skills. Right now, only half of teachers say that this is the case, and itโs just not fair to expect teachers like you to bear the load without fundamental systemic change.
Not only will you transform the lives of struggling children by raising vital funds on No Pens Day, but youโll also be making a real, valuable contribution to the movement that holds policy makers accountable and advocates for educators across the country. Your support is vital to our work: as a campaigning charity, weโre calling on the government to fund tools and training for every school in the UK. And this is just the start.
So there you have it! You have the power to make No Pens Day not just the biggest Show and Tell ever, but the worldโs biggest pen-free fundraiser too! ๐ฅ๐๐ And don’t forget: every school that fundraises will receive a pack of exclusive No Pens Day fridge magnets… score!
