4 ways YOU can stand up for children with speech and language challenges💥
There are 1.9 million children facing challenges with talking and understanding words right now. You have the power to make sure their voices are heard – in Parliament, wider society, and beyond. Here are four ways you can take action and stand up for children with speech and language challenges!
1. Write to your MP🗣
More and more children are falling behind with their talking and understanding of words. We can show Government why this issue needs to be addressed urgently, and what politicians can do to fix it. Here’s a step-by-step guide to writing to your MP and urging them to take action!
Identify who your MP is by entering your postcode on the UK Parliament website here.
- If sending an email, use their official Parliament email address (the on ending: @parliament.uk).
- If writing a letter, address it to:
[Name of the MP]
House of Commons
London
SW1A 0AA
Explain the issue, why it matters to you, and what action you’d like them to take. For example: ask them to ask the government to make sure all teachers are trained to identify and support children with speech and language challenges. Here are more things we’re asking the Government to do!
Share your personal connection to the issue. MPs are more likely to respond when they see how the issue affects their constituents directly.
Even if you didn’t vote for them, or disagree with them on other issues, maintaining a polite tone will make your letter more impactful.
Include facts, statistics, or relevant documents (if appropriate) to strengthen your argument. You can find lots of information here.
End your letter by politely asking for their position on the issue or what action they will take.
MPs prioritise correspondence from their constituents, so include your full name, address, and postcode.
2. Add your name to our pledge✍
Every child facing challenges in learning to talk and understand words deserves the specialist support they need to look to the future with confidence. Will you join over 6,000 others and sign our pledge to show you care?
3. Share our posts!🚀
Social media is a powerful tool that helps raise awareness about the challenges faced by the 1 in 5 children struggling to talk and understanding words. The more people know about our work, the more they can learn what they themselves can do to help (and we hope you’re learning more about the part you can play in our mission right now, by reading this blog post😉)
Social media also helps us reach more families and educators, so they know what resources and support are available to them. This means they’ll be better equipped to support children with speech and language challenges, whether at home or in the classroom.
Share our posts and help us maximise our impact!

4. And of course, donate!🤲
Your support is vital. A donation from you could help make sure that we can continue campaigning, running vital family services, provide free training and develop more resources – so that every child can face the future with confidence.
