Speech and Language UK responds to Commission on the Future of Oracy Education in England’s final report, We Need to Talk

October 8, 2024

Jane Harris, Speech and Language UK Chief Executive, said:

“We hope the Government pays attention to this timely report. We hope leaders in schools, in early years and in government recognise this as a wake-up call. No child can succeed without speech, language and communication skills and our education system should be designed to help them succeed. 1.9 million children currently have speech and language challenges and urgently need help.  We hope to see government rethink its early language intervention policy and teacher training because of this report as well as these recommendations being reflected in the ongoing curriculum and assessment review.”
