A Siblings Day fundraising storyđź’™

Today we’re celebrating our brothers, sisters and those who support us like family this Siblings Day. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑✨

After being inspired by the generosity of others, Freddie aged 7, is taking on the challenge of a sponsored 8-mile walk up Box Hill in Surrey to raise lots of money for children like his little brother Miles.

Miles has a speech sound disorder which means he struggles to make certain sounds. Like many children, he is currently on the waitlist for speech and language therapy and Freddie is determined to raise money in the hopes the waiting list will move along a bit quicker. đź’™

Miles’ family see the struggles he faces on a daily basis and Freddie takes his big brother duties very seriously. Molly, the boys’ mum, explained it’s not uncommon for the elder sibling to be able to understand a younger sibling a lot easier than their parents so Freddie is often able to help Miles at home and at school. Freddie said,

“It feels difficult sometimes because when he gets sad when we don’t understand a word, it makes me sad. I sometimes know what he’s saying more than my parents so I help them sometimes if he’s struggling. I will also be patient with him.”

Good luck for your challenge Freddie. Everyone deserves a big brother like you!

“Thank you! It means a lot to me and my brother Miles. The money is going to go to a very good use.” – Freddie

1 in 5 children in the UK have speech and language challenges. Sadly, waitlists for speech and language therapy are painfully long and children are not receiving vital early support they need right now. We create tools for educators, provide resources for families and put pressure on politicians so children struggling to talk and understand words are not left behind.
