Speech and Language UK responds to Department for Education expansion to its attendance mentoring programme

Jane Harris, Speech and Language UK Chief Executive, said:

“1.9 million children currently have speech and language challenges and urgently need help. Speech and language challenges are often missed as a cause of poor attendance. This can easily lead to poor attendance as children who struggle to talk and understand words struggle to understand what they are meant to do at school and make friends. We will be closely scrutinising what speech and language support is given to children through this programme.”
