Fundraise at Christmas
Make a real difference this festive season
On the 12th day of Christmas Speech and Language UK challenged me……to enjoy the festive season and raise valuable funds for the 1.9 million children struggling with talking and understanding words.
As our gift to you, we’ve put together some of our festive fundraising ideas to help you get the snowball rolling:
What do you get if you cross Santa with a duck? A Christmas Quacker!
So, you think you can name all of Santa’s Reindeer? Pull together your best festive trivia and invite your friends and family over to compete in your own Christmas Quiz. Ask for donations to enter and offer prizes for the winners (or losers). What about a New Year’s Eve Quiz or a Quiz of the year to really test their knowledge?
Organise a Christmas wreath making day. Sell tickets to participate and donate the funds to the 1 in 5 children who struggling with talking and understanding words. While you’ve got everyone together, increase your fundraising total by adding a raffle or selling drinks and at the event too!
Make your own Christmas cards to sell online at a Christmas fair, at school or at work! This is a great festive activity for children to get involved in too. Gift the money you make to support children with speech and language challenges.
Bake sale, but make it festive! Yule log, mince pies, gingerbread cookies, Christmas cake. You could even sell sweet hot chocolate or fruity mulled wine too. There’s no doubt you’ll have some of Santa’s little helpers there to lick the spoon!
Don’t be a Grinch, grab the popcorn and host a movie night full of festive fun. Collect donations for movie choices or bid on the movies you want to watch. Add to the fun(draising) by including games such as donating a pound when a movie character mentions a word like Christmas!
Countdown to Christmas and set yourself an advent challenge. This could be anything from running 5k a day (ready for that big Christmas dinner) to reading a book or giving up something you love. Ask for sponsors and raise money to support children in the UK struggling with talking and understanding words. Start your challenge on 1st December or if you can’t wait to get going, start your challenge now!
Humbug! Don’t let your boss be a scrooge, bring some festive fun to work with a fundraising Christmas hat day, donate to decorate your desk or gift your last hours pay to the 1 in 5 children struggling with talking and understanding words.
Spread the Christmas cheer in your community with some traditional carol singing. Top Tip- Have the QR code for your fundraising page at the ready to make contactless donations easy.
Make space for new Christmas presents by organising a bring and buy sale. Purchase items that have been donated and get a head start on your Christmas shopping, knowing that the money raised is going towards supporting the 1.9 million children struggling with talking and understanding words.
What do you get the person who has everything? Buying Christmas presents can be tricky when your mum’s already got hundreds of candles! Give the gift of hope to the 1.9 million children struggling with talking and understanding words. This year instead of giving gifts, donate the money you’d usually spend to our incredible cause.
Remember to let us snow… what you’re planning so we can support you! Get in touch at fundraising@speechandlanguage.org.uk.
