Our response to the Labour Manifesto
The Labour Party manifesto has committed to evidence-based early language interventions in primary schools. Whoever forms the next government will need to go even further and support should be offered right from the start of a child’s life. New parents deserve advice and support on their child’s early language development, just like they get for diet or vaccinations. We need to see better training for teachers and people working in the early years, so they can better identify and support children struggling with talking and understanding words. We also need more speech and language therapists available to help those children with more complex or life-long needs. If whoever forms the next government can deliver that, then we can begin to help the 1 in 5 children with speech and language challenges.
