Speech and Language UK responds to Government announcement about protecting education ahead of Budget

“Increasing nursery places is desperately needed. But for these nursery places to help children’s development, we need enough skilled staff. Government must extend the Early Years Professional Development programme which otherwise will end in 6 months. This training means staff can support children’s speech and language development, personal and social development and their maths skills. And crucially it makes them want to stay in early years roles. Without this investment, new and old nurseries and childminders will be on an unstable footing from the start, a total false economy.”
