This virtual seminar, which is part of our EYSEND partnership, aims to empower you to make a real difference in creating a supportive communication environment for all children. This session is suitable for anyone who works in early years education, including reception teachers.

Join us to learn more about the research, evidence base and practicalities behind getting in early, a fresh look at using songs and rhymes in your setting and the ‘why and how’ of supporting spoken language.

Speaker Profiles:

Dr. Susan Richards, Lead Speech and Language Advisor at Speech and Language UK

Dr. Susan Richards is a speech and language therapist with over 20 years’ experience working with children in early years, primary and secondary settings. She has combined her clinical role with a research career, most recently as a postdoctoral researcher at Cambridge University. Susan has been part of Speech and Language UK’s advisory team over the last five years and currently leads on projects focusing on supporting the Home Learning Environment in areas of disadvantage. She also offers strategic support for local authorities in developing their speech, language and communication pathways as part of the EYSEND partnership.

Dr. Ioanna Bakopoulou: Bristol University

Dr. Ioanna Bakopoulou is an Educational Psychologist by background with more than 20 years of applied EP practice. Her research focuses on language inequalities, parenting support and education, and early intervention.
