Tailored support for parents when choosing a school for a child with difficulties with talking and understanding words
Discover how a Speech and Language UK assessment can support you with fully identifying your child’s needs and choosing the right school.
As a parent, trying to find the right school for your child can be a difficult process. When you have a child with complex or severe difficulties with talking and understanding words, that can be even harder, with so much more to consider than just Ofsted ratings.
Ensuring that your child has the right support for their needs is imperative and will allow them to thrive and reach their potential.
We assess children aged 4-19 with a range of difficulties and specialise in children who have difficulties with talking and understanding words. This could include speech difficulties, social interaction difficulties, emotional and behaviour difficulties, learning difficulties, sensory processing difficulties, hearing impairments and more.
Our Speech and Language UK assessments provide families, professionals or local authorities with a joined-up picture of a child’s needs. It describes the type of educational support needed so that the child can make the very best social and educational progress. The in-depth recommendations can make a huge and timely difference to a child’s educational experience.
Speech and Language UK assessments can either be carried out for placement at one of our schools in Surrey or Nottinghamshire, or for independent specialist advice.

Our specialised assessment teams are made up of multi-disciplinary experts. This includes speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, special schoolteachers and care staff and can include an educational psychologist.
We give verbal feedback following the assessment and provide a detailed report and recommendations based on the child’s strengths, areas of need and barriers to learning within three to four weeks. By using a range of assessment tools across multi professional disciplines, we can give a holistic and independent view of the child’s needs.
Initially lots of play to build relationships with the team, we want your child to feel relaxed. We will then introduce more structured assessment activities, but these will be delivered in short bursts with fun activities they can choose in between.
Some times of the year are busier than others and you may need to wait up to six weeks for an assessment. Our waiting list is kept much shorter than in many local services.
We try to give verbal feedback following the assessment very quickly, usually on the afternoon of the day a child visits us. Full written reports are sent out three working weeks after an assessment.
We send out a visual timetable, photos of the team and the play spaces we will be using. You can share these with your child beforehand so that they are a little more familiar with us when they arrive.
An assessment can be funded by parents/guardians or by local authorities. Prices vary depending on the type of assessment required. Please contact us to find out more.
