Speak up for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

Join the movement and help raise awareness of the 2 in 30 children affected by DLD.

As part of the DLD vision group along with RADLD, NAPLIC, RCSLT, and Afasic, our mission is to spread awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and make sure that every child who struggles to talk and understand words gets the support they deserve.

DLD impacts 2 in every 30 children, yet most people have never even heard of it. This silence around DLD is leaving children without the help they need. This can have a significant impact on their attainment at school, employment outcomes and social and emotional wellbeing.

We need your voice to help change this.

How you can help

This DLD Awareness Day, let’s speak up for all the children and young people living with DLD. We’re calling all teachers and educators to come together and make a difference!

Your involvement can change young lives – by spreading the word, you can help ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.

We’ve developed key resources to help you spread awareness in your school and with your colleagues including:

  • a DLD Awareness Day video presentation for both primary and secondary schools – take 20-30 minutes out of a staff briefing to watch the video together with your colleagues. Pause the video at the points instructed so you can complete the discussion activities together
  • a DLD Awareness Day presentation slide deck for both primary and secondary schools – use this slide deck to deliver the presentation yourself to staff in your school during a staff briefing or another training opportunity. You can amend the slides to include information relevant to your school/setting
  • a social media toolkit to share with your networks and spark conversations about DLD.

DLD Awareness Day is on Friday 18th October. But don’t wait! The more we share before the big day, the more awareness we’ll raise.
